Tools You Will Use

Student Locker

Use your student locker to store files for easy access no matter where you are. Much like cloud storage, your student locker puts documents at your fingertips for editing and then seamless uploading to your classroom. Using your student locker means never missing an assignment deadline because your documents are always available. Look for the Student locker tab at the top of your classroom web page.

Communication and Collaboration

Students are encouraged to come together and collaborate throughout the eight weeks of class, whether it is casually in a chat room or formally within assigned group study sessions. To facilitate this collaboration, there are a number of communication tools, both within the classroom and in the social media domain. All of the tools in the online classroom are available for use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Use the Course Menu button to access these tools:

Discussion Boards – Are often graded assignments, however, off-topic discussion boards are also available for more casual communication which is not specific to the coursework

Shared Assignment – Used for peer review assignments so students can share files and give feedback

Chat  – Live chat is available 24/7 for instant communication with classmates

  • Instructors may hold their office hours using the classroom chat tool
  • Note: Chat does not work on Apple products (this is because it utilizes Flash technology)

Group Study – Allows faculty and students to synchronously meet in a real-time virtual classroom

  • Used to communicate, share notes, make class presentations, and collaborate on group projects
  • Instructors may use Group Study to hold their virtual office hours
  • Communication is facilitated in real time, using text chat, microphones, and webcams (microphone, headset, and webcam are highly recommended for optimum use of this tool)
  • All sessions are recorded; if you cannot attend a live session you will be able to view a recording of the entire session including all materials presented
  • For details on using the Group Study tool please refer to Help tab (located in the site navigation bar at the top of the page)
